The Sustainable Sound Futures CDT is set to launch a new podcast series from mid July, bringing listeners closer to the fascinating world of sound and its impact on society, technology and the environment.
The Sustainable Sound Futures Podcast Series will be available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and Amazon Music, offering a fresh perspective on the powerful and often overlooked role that sound plays in shaping our daily lives and the world around us.
Created by CDT Sound Futures students, the series brings together leading researchers, real-world case studies and immersive listening experiences to explore some of the most pressing sound-related challenges and opportunities facing society today.
Across the series, listeners will discover how sound can be used as a tool for understanding and improving the world, while also examining the ways in which noise and sound environments affect communities, wellbeing and sustainability.
Among the topics featured are:
- Sound of Biodiversity – how scientists use audio to monitor the health of the natural world and uncover surprising sonic activity in unexpected places.
- Drone Delivery Noise and emerging technologies – the rise of drone deliveries and the challenge of designing quieter futures in increasingly complex urban environments.
- Sound Inequalities in Urban Soundscapes – how noise exposure is unevenly distributed and how where we live can shape our health and wellbeing.
- Low Frequency Noise – the annoyance caused by low frequency noise and its impact.
By combining expert interviews, cutting-edge research and engaging audio storytelling, the Sustainable Sound Futures Podcast Series aims to make complex research accessible to a broad audience while encouraging conversations about the role of sound in creating healthier, fairer and more sustainable futures.
At the heart of the series is a simple but thought-provoking question: What does a sustainable sound future really sound like? The answer may be more important—and more surprising—than many people realise.
